Storm Union Square, by Childe Hassam, 1890

The world is squelchy
It has rained for three days straight
Drizzles, drops; torrents

Side eye sulking skies
slouching grumbles on our trees
smears of fragrant; wet

Sidewalks wrinkle, spent
even the puddles are done
baleful and matte; flat

Breathing is thick with
laden mulch and floating streams
And I beam; solace
